History of the
Baileyville Grange
Founded in 1934
Baileyville
Grange #1991 was reorganized with the remain
members of Leonard Grange #779 in Rock
Springs founded in 1885. The building
burned in 1887 and was dormant until 1911.
Master J. M. Campbell and 41 members
reorganized and Chartered Baileyville Grange
#1991. At the first meeting after
reorganization, Master G. M. Fry presided
with 29 members present with Claude Myers
serving as Secretary. At about the same
time, the Baileyville Community obtained
ownership of a two-room schoolhouse. With
help from the Grange members and the
community, the school was renovated into a
Community Building where the Grange has met
since their first meeting on February 20,
1934.
In 2003,
Washington Grange merged with Baileyville
Grange. Washington Grange #157 was
Chartered on March 23, 1874, located in Pine
Hall. Charter members were John Kumrine,
Benjamin Corl, Jr., Calvin H. Struble, Jacob
L. Roup, Fredrick Kumrine, David W. Shivery,
Adam Krumrine, William Bloom, Henry Bloom,
Jr., Mrs. A. J. Kumrine and Mary Hoy. In
1884 Washington Grange had a coronet band
that played for the Granger’s Picnic on
Nittany Mountain.

The Centre County Grange Encampment and Fair
is held at end of August (Friday of the
third week through Thursday of the fourth
week). The Grange Fair is a city within a
town, as campers "move into" the Grange Park
in Centre Hall, PA, to live for more than a
week. A place
where Centre County Granges offer an
opportunity every summer for young people
and their families to display the perfection
they have achieved with their animals,
plants and crafts. A place where families
unite and build relationships. A place
where one can meet and fellowship with their
friends and neighbors. A place of to build
memories and traditions since 1874.
Baileyville
Grange annually participates in the Grange
Fair with a Grange exhibit and float.
