Fulfilling Our Mission…

The Mission of Scrubgrass Grange, #1705, Venango County,  is to be a good neighbor in our local, county, state, and national community.  Through the cooperative efforts of membership, we strive to:

  • serve as a center for community activities
  • provide community service
  • encourage the education of our members and others
  • promote family oriented activities which support family structure
  • engage in the legislative process
  • extend friendship to all
  • uphold high ideals and faith in God

Scrubgrass Grange fulfills its mission in many ways.  Throughout the year, members devote many hours to community service fund raising and activities.  The following actions by the Grange highlight our commitment to our mission.  This year, Scrubgrass Grange has:

  • Hosted two “Meet Your Candidates Nights,” one featuring the two candidates for state representative prior to the fall election, and the second this spring, featuring all Democratic and Republican candidates running in the primary election for County Commissioner, Judge, and Auditor.

  • Donated $250 to VARHA (Venango Area Riding for the Handicapped Association)

  • Donated $50 for a benefit dinner for a local resident

  • Donated 150 paper plates to the Venango County Relay for Life Survivor Reception held in the spring

  • Donated $500 to the Wounded Warriors Program to support wounded soldiers who are returning from Iraq by giving them personal care items

  • Donated $500 to the Emlenton Police Dog Fund, leveraged with an equal donation from the National Association of Chiefs of Police, resulting in an increase of $1000 to that fund

  • Answered appeals from various granges and grange committees with monetary donations

  • Supported the Emlenton Echoes 4-H Club by allowing them to hold their regular meetings at the grange hall (ongoing) and to host a benefit baked potato dinner, with proceeds going to support area food cupboards

  • Supported the local Cub Scout organization by allowing them to have their annual dinner at the grange hall

  • Prepared and served dinners for the District American Legion Auxiliary and the Fair Zone Committee as money making community service activities

  • Hosted the 17th Annual Scrubgrass Grange Dinner Show for the enjoyment of area residents

  • Provided a meeting place for the Southern Venango County Senior Center and worked closely with the Venango County Area Agency on Aging to provide a safe, clean, and comfortable environment for their activities (ongoing)

  • Purchased a new 10-burner stove for use in preparing food for our dinners and for the Senior Center to use when needed

Many other activities are planned for the coming months, including participating in the Emlenton River Fest, the Pennsylvania State Grange Family Fest, the Southern Venango County Community Days, Franklin Apple Fest, the Harlansburg 4-H district Horse Show, and of course, the Venango County Fair. Come and join us for the fun and fellowship for which the Scrubgrass Grange is noted.

Scrubgrass Grange President Barbara Warden presented a check for $500 from the grange to the Emlenton Police Department as a contribution to their K-9 fund. In return, the grange received a Certificate of Appreciation for supporting the Emlenton community K-9 project and for making the Emlenton area a safer place to live.

The dog will be used for drug enforcement.  Officer Jason Edwards (left) will be the dog’s handler, and will leave for specialized training in Harrisburg with the dog in May.

Because of an agreement with the National Association of Chiefs of Police, the grange’s $500 donation was doubled, for a total contribution of $1000. Also in the picture is Chief of Police Dan Siegel.
