Wesley Grange holds "Meet Your Neighbor" Night

Wesley Grange gets a lot of help from their local fire police
with the traffic during their Annual Buckwheat Cake "Supper"
that runs from 6 a.m. to 6 p.m. and serves about 1,500 people.

Approximately 40 Wesley Grange members and neighbors of the Grange met on Sunday, November 18th for an informal get-together. The idea for the social came about because a new neighbor of the Grange asked a Grange member how he could meet some of his neighbors. He had lived beside the Grange hall for almost 2 years and had met only a few of the neighbors.

The Grange decided to have a social gathering so that the folks that live beside and near the hall could get to know each other better. A number of new residents had moved into the area in the last couple of years. Invitations were hand delivered to the neighbors. The response was impressive. Eleven Grange members and 32 neighbors planned to attend!

The Grange served a light supper of Sloppy Joes, salads and desserts. James McDowell, Master, gave a short history of the Grange and what we do for the community. Then each person present gave their name, where they live, where they work, etc. Carol McCullon, Secretary, thanked the neighbors for their tolerance during the Annual Buckwheat Cake Supper. Sometimes driveways or mailboxes are blocked by those attending the Supper; also the smell of sausage cooking from 3 a.m. until 6 p.m. or the sound of the dumpster being emptied at midnight.

Those present were all invited to the Annual Christmas party on December 29. It was also decided to have another get-together in the spring, with each person inviting another neighbor. Everyone present felt that the time spent visiting with the neighbors was time well spent.
