I had the privilege of helping
Hamburg Grange #2103, Berks County, serve an all-you-can eat
chicken pot pie dinner to raise money for Muscular Distrophy on
Saturday, February 16.
The money was raised and will be
donated in the name of Roy Heffner, one of Hamburg's Charter
Members, who lost his battle with Muscular Dystrophy last year.
Roy's wife Anna and daughter Barb are both members of Hamburg
Grange #2103 (daughter Michelle of Shillington also
participated).
The entire dinner was quite
amazing. You see, Hamburg Grange only has about 20 members at
the moment, having grown from their original 14 charter members
since November, 2005. And they served over 400 people in a
little less than 3 hours!
This year's pot pie dinner was
held at the Hamburg Area High School cafeteria. They held a
similar dinner last year in the Hamburg Senior Center in the
Hamburg Borough Building where the Grange meets but quickly
outgrew that space.
In addition to the money raised
from the dinner itself, the Grange held a Chinese Auction and
sold baked goods throughout the meal. They had hoped to raise at
least $2,000 to donate and it looks like they surpassed their
goal. They raised an additional $600 just on the Chinese
Auction!
