Hope everyone is getting
ready for camp. Only joking, but it is time for chaperones to get their
clearances if they would like to help. We appreciate any help we can
get. The clearance papers can take up to 2 months. If you love
children and fun, camp is the place to be. This year there will be
financial help for anyone who would like to come and are having
financial issues. Please contact Janet Pratt for help. We don’t want
anyone to miss out!
We will be going to the
State College Spikes baseball game again this year. The game date is
July 3rd. Our Junior Grange Royalty will be throwing out the first pitch
and our own Hannah Pratt will be singing the National Anthem. If you are
Mary Mills #608 not coming to camp, but want tickets to join the Juniors
at the game they are $5.50 each. Please let Janet know by June 1. The
seats will be along the first base line.
We are all excited about
this year’s camp and all the fun we have planned. For a community
project, we plan to do Read Across America. So bring a book or two to
camp this year that is slightly used or new. What a great idea to help
kids to read. Any Junior Granger who wants to participate is more than
welcome. Read Across America is a National Grange Program designed to
encourage our Juniors to appreciate and enjoy reading. The program
requirements are for the Junior to read one book, one magazine, one
newspaper and one food product label. Once they have read these items,
the Junior is to bring them to their meeting and share what they
learned. Juniors who complete the project will receive a certificate and
a special Junior Grange bookmark.
To promote reading Junior
Granges can have a Theme Reading Party. Choose a favorite author or
topic. Have a PJ party. Have the Juniors wear their PJ's to a meeting,
bring a sleeping bag, their favorite book and a healthy snack and read
to their parents.
I know that spring is just
around the corner. I hope all you Juniors are thinking of ways to make
your community beautiful. I plant a lot of plants and flowers and
encourage others to participate in this agricultural background. We are
already planning what we are doing with our 5 gardens (small) and our
strawberries. I’m really learning to appreciate farmers more each day.
We put in a single milker. The kids really enjoy the wholesome milk and
even after 4 months still enjoy milking. It’s a great way for them to
learn about dairy cows and I enjoy how many things that I can do with
milk. We hope to get 100 chicks soon. I just love those fuzzy little
fellows. I hope some of you try something new in the agriculture field.
We’d love to hear about some projects that you do that are special on
your farm or home. Email us and let us hear about your projects.
I can’t wait to see new and
old faces at camp and I’m working hard trying to think of something
great to teach you all to cook. Take me out to the ball game and let’s
eat.
