Family Festival Registration form and Schedule
(It is included on the Registration form and Schedule
HERE)
The Pampered Chef program will have a $5 fee to it and the Craft (travel
jewelry pouch) will have a $3 fee, which covers the cost of materials. If
you have already sent in your registration and would like to participate in
these two programs, please send your information and fees to Faye Heckman
and she will schedule you in, or you can let her know and then pay her when
you arrive at the festival registration.
If you cannot make connection, please call the state director and she can
get the info to Faye.
Thanks for your patience.

It's finally here - Spring that
is! It seemed like winter was especially long this year.
Greetings from northwestern PA.
Time marches on - but, Oh! so fast. By now your Subordinate and Pomona
Family Activities Chairpersons should have raffle tickets for the
Churndasher Quilt to be raffled off at State Session in October. They should
also have a picture of the quilt. A picture should also appear in a future
Advocate. The ladies from Scrubgrass Homemakers here in Venango County did
the quilting.
I hope that everyone is busy
with the Community Awareness Projects. Remember these are the ones that stay
in your community. They are only tallied on your Subordinate or Pomona
reports. Give those stuffed toys, preemie caps and booties, lap robes or
afghans, wheelchair and walker bags, TLC Shoeboxes, etc. back to the
community where they are needed.
I hope that you are also working
on contest entries. New this year is Decorate a Tea Cup. Create a design to
suit your standard size tea cup and saucer. The Baking/Cooking Contest has
changed also. There is only one item in each class. The Dessert Bread is
pumpkin only; the Cookies are molasses only, and the Fudge is rocky road
only. Don't forget about all the other contests. We on the Family Activities
Committee would love to see a crowded FA room of exhibits at State Session.
You can do it! So can we!
It seems that more clarification
is needed concerning the "Dignity Shirts" (McCalls Pattern #3253, View D)
being made for women facing treatments for breast cancer. When making them,
the seams on each side and the front should be made about 1 inch larger so
that it can be used to sew soft Velcro onto it. DO NOT DO BUTTONS, DO NOT
SEW SEAMS SHUT. These should be brought to State Session.
Are you signed up for the Family
Festival yet! Again, it is at the Centre County Grange Fairgrounds from July
17 to July 20, 2008. The theme this year is "Civil War." The registration
form and schedule are on pages 10 & 11 of this issue. As you can see there
will be lots of things to do - campfire, civil war reenactments, crafts,
tours, etc. Each year we have more attending. Let's keep it going that way.
What a great time for family and fun and getting to know fellow Grangers!
See you there!
Fraternally,
Mazie Master
Region A Director
A BIG and EXCITING project is
taking shape for the Family Activities Committee this summer, and it is
state-wide. Two years ago we made a quilt block called “The Rose of Sharon.”
We are happy to report that
these blocks are being made into a beautiful quilt as you read this article.
The quilt will be done in time to kick off a Quilt Raffle for Breast Cancer
at the Family Festival in July. The special raffle will be to sell 1,000
pink tickets. The tickets are marked and will be sold this summer up until
the State Session in October.
At the same time, we are doing
our usual quilt raffle for the quilt we give away annually at the State
Session. Please do not confuse the two tickets. The drawing for this special
project will be held at State Session at the annual All Granger Banquet.
The funds raised from this
project will be given along with our Dignity Shirts, for Breast Cancer. The
Pennsylvania Breast Cancer Coalition is working closely with us. They will
also help us to find treatment centers where we can deliver the shirts, too.
Remember the shirts are to be brought to the State Session only. If you have
a breast cancer treatment center near you, please check with them to see if
they would like some shirts, then let Ginny, the State Director know. She
will then compile a list so we can divide and conquer in placing them.
We have set a goal of 200
shirts, but the committee would like to see more. Our raffle goal is to sell
all of the 1,000 tickets so we need everyone’s help. We would like to
present the Coalition with a BIG check at the banquet at State Session.
So…you see, we have seen a need
and we will meet the needs and our goals with your help. Please support us
this year on all of our contests and projects. You have not let us down, so
we look for great results on our projects and contests again this year. YOU
are what keeps us going and working on new things and ideas. Use your
imagination and help us sell these tickets for this project. If you are
willing to sell them for us, contact Ginny as well. The tickets will then be
put into the mail to you.
Thank you all for your support
in the past, and we look forward to another great year. We have a lot to do,
and cannot do it without you.
