The Scotch Valley Grange had a
community service project that would benefit our four legged
friends. The Blair County Humane Society was in need of some
helping hands for donations of food, paper towels and litter.
The Grange collected all the items for them and invited the
Humane Society to present a program for us. The Grange then
surprised them with our donations.

Ingrid Healy, Director of the
Humane Society, presented a program about the group and all they
do for the community. She spoke of how the shelter has as many
as 150 dogs, cats, birds and some other animals. She told us how
all the money that they get to run the shelter is from
donations, fund raisers and adoption fees. They do not get any
funding from any city or county governments. She explained that
they have a thrift shop that sells donated items to raise money
to keep the shelter going.
Ingrid then told us about special
projects that they do to let the communities know about the
animals that are available to be adopted and the process that
people need to follow to adopt an animal. She explained that
animals are medically checked out when they arrive at the
shelter and must be spade or neutered before they can be put up
for adoption. She asked if anyone had any questions for them and
there were plenty. She presented a great program and we learned
a lot from her.
After the meeting, there was pie
and ice cream for all to enjoy.
