Grangers Gather At Antique Tractor Expo

ELIZABETHTOWN, Pa. (Aug. 12) - Members of Fulton Grange #66 and Elizabethtown Grange #2076 met on Saturday, Aug. 11 for the Lancaster County Pomona Grange #71 picnic. The event was held in conjunction with the Northwest Lancaster County Antique Tractor Expo at the David Becker farm in Elizabethtown.

“This is an important meeting for our Granges,” said Steven Stettner, Lancaster County Pomona Master. “The Pomona Grange reviewed its legislative policy and began preparing for state session. At its foundation, Grange provides a grassroots voice for its members at the local, county, state and national level.”

Discussion during the Grange meeting focused on a variety of topics, including immigration reform and its potential effect on production agriculture, Chapter 339, recent problems with imports from China, the 2007 Farm Bill, and the status of Home Rule in Lancaster County. In addition, plans were finalized for the upcoming county legislative banquet, slated for September. Cliff and Marion Holloway were selected as the Pomona delegates for the State Grange Session to be hosted in Williamsport in October. Each Grange also reported on their activities since the last Pomona meeting. Pennsylvania State Grange Master Betsy Huber, who attended the gathering, offered greetings and expressed her appreciation to the Pomona for hosting State Grange Session in 2008.

After the meeting, the members enjoyed the activities of the day, including threshing and baling demonstrations, tractor pulls and countless antique tractors on display.
