Dear Worthy Lecturers;

Greetings from Yardley, PA!  Hope all is well with everyone.  Are you enjoying your summer?

Mom and I returned from the "Wild, Wild Western" Mid Atlantic Lecturers' Conference (MALC) held at the Quality Inn in Bedford, PA.  It certainly was a great weekend to circle our Grange wagons, sit with fellow "Grange Wranglers" from the different states within this organization (PA, NY, OH, NJ, DE, MD, VA, WV, TN, NC, SC, FL) and meet with people that have the same interest at heart - The Grange!  Our focus in today's changing society is not to give up on the Grange Organization but to "Cowboy Up" and meet the challenge of finding new ways to spark the interest of our young people and entice them to join this great group of people throughout the country.  I hope that with the enormous amount of information and programs that generated from this year's conference will help do just that.  In addition to what was presented by our guest speakers was an entire "goodie-bag chuck full" of information from all over Pennsylvania.  Anyone who was unable to attend the conference may acquire this information (for a small fee to cover the expenses of the copied material, postage and handling) by contacting Georgette Mummert at 814-832-4640 or Email her at Georgettemummert@yahoo.com or write to her at RD 1, Box 172, Williamsburg, PA 16693.

HOLD IT COWPOKES!!!  Don't put away your spurs, boots, chaps and lariats just because MALC is over.  The Grange Family Festival is not far behind and the same theme will be celebrated.  So "come one and all" to the 4th Annual PA State Grange Family Festival held in Centre Hall, PA at the Centre County Grange Fairgrounds and celebrate the WILD-WILD WEST out in the open and under the stars.  If you like to camp there is plenty of room for a motor home, or camper/trailer and spacious tents for you to use if you don't have a home on wheels.  If you do not like to "camp out" there are motels not far away so there is no need NOT to "come and play."  Read the registration form in your Advocates for all the activities, complete the form (and you can't say you did not see it because it is a full page) and send it in to Faye Heckman.  It is not too late to make reservations.  Even though these forms should have been in by June 20th we will welcome "late comers."  If you are uncertain about sending in the forms or have questions about a reservation please call Faye at 610-562-7537 or email her at dfheckman@verizon.net

Worthy Lecturers, please make the announcements at your meetings that at this Festival we will have numerous workshops, tours, crafts, activities, square dancing, drill team (no excuse to have 2 left feet - they march too), bike riding, tram riding, (sorry no horseback riding so tether your steed outside the gate), horseshoe tournament for men and women and more.  Don't forget to bring western decorations and "dress up" their living quarters or themselves.  That's right folks, we will have numerous categories for judging:  1) Campers; 2) Trailers; 3) Tents, and; 4) YOU (so get our your western gear and join the fashion show!)  I would also like to have a Western hat contest so bring it along, decorate it and win a prize.  Also, please make the announcement for people to bring a small gift wrapped in plain paper to be used as prizes for the Bingo game held Friday evening.  We will collect these gifts at the registration table.

My committee and I would like to make changes to and improve the 2008 Guide to Contests and Programs and have asked for Grange members to send suggestions and ideas for the Lecturer's Department.  We would like to include interesting topics, themes, etc. that would interest everyone but we need to hear from you.  I have not heard from many people so if you have something to offer us please do so before July 15th, 2007.  We plan to discuss the changes at the Festival.  Speaking of the Guide to Contests and Programs, if you noticed, there was a change in the due date to give ample time for judging for Scrapbooks, Community Night Program books, etc. since State Session is so early in October this year.  HOWEVER PLEASE NOTE that the date for the Talent Eliminations which is incorrectly listed.  These eliminations will still be held on Saturday, September 15, 2007 which is the third Saturday in September as it has been for many years.

Hope to see you at the Festival!

Fraternally
