Leadership Tip-Archives

December 2002 - Teach

Teaching is an important part of developing your leadership skills. No other activity will develop your leadership skills as fully as instructing others in ways to improve. Teaching is nothing more that effective communication. When you can convey a way to do something or find a solution to someone else, you are teaching. Leaders that do not teach on a regular basis do not grow to their full potential.

Personal teaching is more like coaching. You help the individual find the answer that lets them become successful. If you coach others in your Grange regularly, not only will they and your Grange benefit, but you will grow as a leader. Make personal coaching a regular part of your Grange experience.

Teaching a group requires preparation by you. Think about what your teachable points are and how you can focus on them. Then practice in your mind what you are going to do to maintain the interest of the group. Incorporate humor, physical activity, and interaction into your presentation. While instructing a group is always challenging, it also builds your skills as a leader.

Become a stronger Grange leader by teaching others in order to improve your abilities.
