What do you do when your car starts
breaking down regularly? What do you do when you want to run some new
software on your computer, but your system doesn’t have enough memory? You
upgrade by replacing the car with a new model or you buy a more modern
computer.
Think about upgrading in this same manner in the Grange when your members
are comfortable with things as they are, but you’re not? Upgrade an
activity, event, or program in your Grange. When members are complacent,
as a Grange leader, you can try something new and improved. Put on a
program that challenges and intrigues your fellow members. Suggest adding
a new event that involves the community.
Trying something new increases the opportunity to involve members in new
ways. It may encourage them to think of new solutions. It may even inspire
or enthuse a member or two. Approach complacency, or members who are set
in their ways, with the idea of upgrading. It’s a positive step forward,
and doesn’t leave anyone or anything important behind.
