As a leader, you need to provide Vision for your Grange. If you are going
to provide some positive direction as a leader, you need to take a hard
look at your community. It is important to assess the needs of your
community.
This may seem easy as you live there, read the paper and talk to your
friends, but a good assessment requires communication. You need to go out
into the community and talk to people. Start by identifying some of your
community leaders, especially ones you don’t normally talk to. The
opinions of ministers, business leaders, civic leaders, government
officials, law enforcement and fire department leaders all need to be a
part of your assessment.
Ask them what they see as the big problems in your community. Then ask
them how they think the Grange could be a part of the solution to the
problem they have identified. Finally ask if they would suggest who else
you need to talk to. The last step is to report to your Grange what you
have discovered and begin building teams to address how the Grange will
create solutions to the problems that have been uncovered.
Assess the needs of your community and find a cause that will help your
Grange grow!
