Do you seem to have a shortage of workers in your
Grange? Ever get frustrated because others don’t seem to get the task done
right or on time? Then it’s time to focus on your team building skills as
a Grange leader.
The first thing to change is the process of assigning committees. Begin by
looking at the task and identifying what skills would be useful in getting
it done. Organizational skills, knowledge of publicity, task specific
skills (i.e. cooking talents for a dinner), enthusiasm, or even the skill
of being able to relate to others may all be skills that would assist in
getting the task done. The more possible skills that could be used, the
more diverse team you can build.
Then look at your members and identify the skills that they have. Maybe
someone has a skill that has never been utilized in your project. Then
take a look at your inactive members. What skills do they have? Maybe they
just need to know that they are important to the success of this project
in order to help out. Take a look outside your membership for skills your
members don’t have. A non-member may just be willing to help.
Take the first step in team building and become a better leader in your
Grange!
