When you see the problem or have an answer, do you
wonder why sometimes no one else sees it? The solution is to take it to
them. Two-way communication is the best way to get others to see the need
or the solution. To get your fellow members to buy into a solution or even
to see the need for a solution, they must buy into you first. To buy in to
a leader there must be open communication.
Talk with your members about the problem and how
important it is to find a solution together. Let them see that you
consider the problem important and urgent. Be positive and solicit ideas
from your fellow members. Share the benefits of finding a solution
with them.
When you have a possible solution, ask others to
evaluate it and think of ways of making the solution better. Give them the
opportunity to make the idea theirs. View the idea as the Grange’s not
yours. Let others share the pride of ownership in the possible solution.
Build a stronger Grange by taking problems and potential
solutions to the membership.
