LEMOYNE, PA - The PA State Grange Executive
Committee and its related scholarship foundations have announced
their 2007 scholarship winners.
The recipients of The Grange Scholarship
Endowment at the Pennsylvania State University for 2007 are
Craig W. Peffer of Volant and Gwen Switzer of Womelsdorf.
Craig received $1,000.00 from the Endowment.
He will be entering his junior year at Penn State, Behrend in
the fall. He is the son of Barry and Anita Peffer. He has been
a member of Plain Grove Grange #1431 in Lawrence County since
1993. Craig graduated fifth in his class from Wilmington Area
High School in 2005. He is majoring in Mechanical Engineering.
Gwen received $500.00 from the Endowment
Scholarship fund. Gwen is in her senior year at Penn State's
main campus and is majoring in Animal Sciences. She is a 2003
graduate of Conrad Weiser High School and is the daughter of
Leonard and Marie Switzer. Gwen joined Marion Grange #1853 in
Berks County in 2002.
The Grange Scholarship Endowment at the
Pennsylvania State University was established "to provide
recognition to outstanding undergraduate students [who are
Grange members in good standing] enrolled in at least their
sophomore year at any College or campus of the Pennsylvania
State University who have a demonstrated need for funds to meet
their college expenses." Recipients are nominated by the PA
State Grange Scholarship Committee and selected by the Office of
Student Aid Scholarship Committee.
Craig Peffer is also the recipient of a
$1,000.00 scholarship grant from the PA State Grange Foundation
Scholarship fund. The Grange Foundation Scholarship "was
established by delegate action in 1996. Candidates must be
Fourth Degree Grange members in good standing for at least one
year prior to applying. They must seek higher education in any
field at any institution of higher learning and be in need of
financial assistance." The Selection Committee consists of the
PA State Grange Overseer/Vice-President, one member of the State
Grange Executive Committee and three appointed Grange members,
of which at least one must be an educator. The Fund is
administered by the PA State Grange Executive Committee.
Recieving $500 loans through the Santee
Student Loan Fund are Kendall Leinhauser, Jennifer Nauss and
Carl E. Rudy.
Kendall Leinhauser is the daughter of Sherrie
and Otto Leinhauser of Newtown, Bucks County. She graduated
from Council Rock High School and will be attending Millersville
University. She plans to major in Elementary Education.
Kendall is a member of the Elizabethtown Area Grange #2076 in
Lancaster County.
Jennifer Nauss just graduated third in her
class from Mechanicsburg Area Senior High School in Cumberland
County. She is the daughter of Bradley and Anna May Nauss and
is the Program Director for Valley Grange #1360 in York County.
Jennifer will be attending Pennsylvania State University's main
campus in State College and plans to double major in
Communication Sciences and Disorders as well as Elementary
Education.
Carl E. Rudy is heading to Harrisburg Area
Community College to major in Agricultural Engineering before
moving on to Pennsylvania State University. Carl is the son of
Frederick and Linda Rudy of Halifax and graduated from Halifax
Area High School. He is a member of Community Grange #2048 in
Dauphin County.
The Santee Student Loan Fund "was established
by the late Ellis M. Santee, a country doctor from Shichshinny
and an active Grange member." The $500 loans are interest free
to Grange members. The Selection Committee consists of the PA
State Grange Ceres, Pomona, Flora and Treasurer. The student
loans are administered by the PA State Grange President and
Executive Committee.
The Grange is a family fraternal organization
dedicated to the betterment of the American quality of life through
community service, education, legislation and fellowship. The
Grange includes members of all ages from their
Junior Grange (ages 5-14), Youth Members (ages 14-23), Young Adults
(ages 21-35) and Regular Community (local) members
(age 14 and up). The Grange represents
approximately 15,000 Pennsylvanians across the Commonwealth. It is
the oldest agricultural and rural advocacy organization of its kind
in
the United States. The National Grange (Patrons
of Husbandry), representing about 150,000 members, began in 1867 and
the PA State Grange was chartered in 1873.
