Springfield, Illinois - Betsy Huber, PA State Grange President, was elected to the National Grange Executive Committee this morning at the National Grange Convention in Springfield, Illinois.
 
The National Grange, Patrons of Husbandry, is holding its annual convention this week in Springfield.  The 140th National Grange Convention was officially opened Tuesday morning at the Hilton Springfield Hotel.  The convention will conclude Saturday, November 18 with the annual Grange Celebration Banquet.
 
Elections were held this morning for two open seats on the National Grange Executive Committee.  PA State Grange Pres. Betsy Huber was elected to a two-year term.  The duty of the Executive Committee of the National Grange is "to exercise general supervision of the affairs of the Order...which shall include those acts pertaining to the execution of the laws, rules, regulations, and policy established by the delegates of the National Grange."  The National Grange is headquartered at 1616 H Street NW in Washington, D.C.   
 

Betsy Huber was born and raised on a dairy farm in Chester County, Pennsylvania.  She graduated from West Chester High School and attended Millersville and Lincoln Universities.

 

In October 2002 she was elected Master (President) of the Pennsylvania State Grange, the first woman to hold that position.  Previously she served six years as Overseer (Vice President) and held many other offices on the state, county, and local levels of the Grange.  She was just re-elected to her third term as PA State Grange President at their recent annual session in October.

 

From 1992 to 2002 Mrs. Huber was Legislative Assistant to State Representative Arthur D. Hershey (R-13) in his district office.  Prior to that she was employed by Lincoln University for three years and by the National Grange for seven years as secretary to the Women’s Activities Department.

 

She is serving her third term as a Supervisor of Upper Oxford Township, Chester County, and serves as Treasurer of the Chester County Association of Township Officials.  Other board memberships include PA Farmlink, Ag Awareness Foundation, PA Department of Agriculture Ag Education Advisory Board, Ag Air Quality Task Force, Keystone Ag Innovation Board, Fertilizer Advisory Committee, The Pennsylvania State University Board of Trustees, PA DEP Ag Advisory Committee, and the Chester County Water Resources Task Force.

 

Mrs. Huber has represented the Pennsylvania State Grange on the University of Pennsylvania Veterinary School Board of Overseers since November 2002.

 

She was married to Henry T. Huber, recently deceased, for 39 years.  They are the parents of three children and grandparents of seven.

 

The Grange is a family fraternal organization dedicated to the betterment of the American quality of life through community service, education, legislation and fellowship.  The Grange includes members of all ages from their Junior Grange (ages 5-14), Youth Members (ages 14-23), Young Adults (ages 21-35) and Regular Community (local) members (age 14 and up).  The Grange represents approximately 15,000 Pennsylvanians across the Commonwealth.  It is the oldest agricultural and rural advocacy organization of its kind in the United States.  The National Grange (Patrons of Husbandry), representing about 300,000 members, began in 1867 and the PA State Grange was chartered in 1873.
