Grange Records Preserved at PA State Archives
Nearly 200 Subordinate and Pomona Granges, both active and disbanded, have records on deposit for safe keeping with the State Archives of Pennsylvania in Harrisburg. Currently, the State Archives facility holds 170 cubic feet of Pennsylvania Grange records in Manuscript Group 493, the largest amount in original paper form and a smaller amount of microfilmed records. Initially, Grange records were accepted on a temporary loan basis, microfilmed by the State Archives and the originals returned to the owner. Later, when microfilming was no longer done by the State Archives, only paper records would be accepted for storage in properly climate-controlled conditions. Since about 2016, lack of space in the State Archives resulted in a moratorium on the acceptance of additional Grange documents. It is not known if or when records will be accepted in the future.
